Oshawa, Ontario--The Canadian International Development Agency
(CIDA) has accepted ADRA's proposal for a new, five-year program in Canada.
CIDA will contribute $4,875,000 toward the $7,800,000 program.
The new program will focus on basic education, health, and food security in the countries of Kenya, Togo, Mongolia, Laos, and Cambodia.
"We look forward to working with ADRA during the next five years," stated Dr. Norman Cook, manager, Global Affiliates at CIDA. "I would like to take this opportunity to also wish you and your partners every success in achieving the anticipated results of the program," he added.
"This is a signal from the Government of Canada and CIDA that they have confidence in the organization and accountability of ADRA in its work in Canada and around the world," stated Oliver Lofton-Brook, Executive Director for the ADRA office in Canada.
"This support will make possible significant long-term sustainable changes in the lives of poor and disadvantaged people," reported Lisa Mercer, ADRA Canada's international program director. "We are excited about this program and invite our donors to help us make it a reality."
"The enthusiastic support of our donors through the years has made this possible," stated Nola Pal, ADRA Canada's finance director. "And we never forget that none of our work would be possible without the dedicated professionalism of our partners in the developing world."
The new program will augment ADRA Canada's existing program, valued at over
$4 million a year, which helps needy people in approximately 30 countries.
ADRA is present in 125 countries, providing community development and emergency management without regard to political or religious affiliation, age, or ethnicity.
