The General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists Supports ADRA projects in Uganda and Belize

The General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists Supports ADRA projects in Uganda and Belize

Silver Spring, Maryland -- During the Annual Week of Spiritual Emphasis held March 6 10 at the World Headquarters of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, the employees of the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists donated almost $5,000 towards projects supported by the Adventist Development and Relief Agency in Uganda and Belize.

The General Conference donated an estimated $3,000 to purchase an inspected 20-foot ocean freight steel container that will be used to ship a diesel generator to Bugema University, located close to Kampala, Uganda. The shipment will also include a 300-gallon fuel tank that will be built into the container. A switch to start the generator automatically when the electricity goes off will also be included, as well as a ventilation system to prevent it from overheating, and additional necessary tools.

The General Conference also sent an estimated $2,000 in gifts for orphans and those suffering from medical diseases in Belize. Employees donated hygiene and education kits, toys, hats, water bottles, and much more. This donation will be distributed along with a donation of medical equipment, medical supplies, and cancer medicines, and it will be distributed to various health clinics and institutions throughout the Central American country. The value of the entire shipment is $350,000, including $80,000 worth of cancer medicines.

"We are thankful for the support of our General Conference family," said Charles Sandefur, president of ADRA International.
"We appreciate their support and desire to partner with ADRA to provide assistance for these projects that are so desperately needed," he continued.

Every year, the World Headquarters of the Seventh-day Adventist Church takes on two philanthropic projects to help those in need around the world. One project provides a cash donation and the other donates gifts in kind, such as disaster relief items.

ADRA is present in 125 countries, providing community development and emergency management without regard to political or religious association, age, or ethnicity.
