Silver Spring, Maryland–The Adventist Development and Relief Agency International (ADRA) is providing emergency aid for survivors of the earthquake that struck Pakistan, India, and Afghanistan on October 8, causing tremendous destruction and leaving tens of thousands feared dead.
ADRA has committed funding to provide emergency materials, such as food, blankets, beds, and tents for earthquake survivors. ADRA is also planning to airlift medical supplies into the disaster-struck region, and coordinate a medical team on the ground that will provide medical care for those injured by the disaster.
The Commissioner of Rehabilitation in Pakistan has also advised ADRA of the specific needs of District Bagh, a town located near Muzzafarabad, Pakistan, that was heavily damaged by the effects of the earthquake.
“ADRA is working to meet the needs of the suffering of the survivors in Pakistan and India as quickly as possible,” stated Frank Teeuwen, bureau chief for emergency management, ADRA International.
ADRA has also created a South Asia Earthquake Relief Fund, to help provide relief for survivors.
