Without Water the San people of the Kalahari desert have little hope of survival

Gisje looks up at the sky, waiting for rain. He's concerned for the future of his village if the drought continues. The elderly are extremely weak and often stay in their small huts all day. He says that without a working well the village will die out--literally.

Water is life
You've probably heard the saying that "water is life." We simply can't survive without water. And that couldn't be more true in the bone-dry Kalahari Desert of Namibia.

There, severe water shortages are threatening the lives of countless families...as I write. And they need your help while there's still time.

The desert's arid climate sucks the moisture from the air, leaving children's throats dry and painfully parched. It's painful to hear the rasping sounds as they try to speak to you, or cry to their mothers for just a tiny drop of water. Rain is scarce and there are no streams or rivers.

Our Children Will Die

Sixty-year-old Garo Cukga stands less than five feet tall and looks about two decades older than her age. She looks down at the hot, dry earth of the Kalahari Desert, and she speaks with urgency.
"The village will die, our children will die, and even the grownups will die without water. We can't grow food, we can't even cook without it," she says.
"The hunger in our village came when our well stopped working."
